LA DIFFÉRENCE ENTRE UN DIAMANT NATUREL & SYNTHÉTIQUE

THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A NATURAL & SYNTHETIC DIAMOND

Diamonds have always symbolized eternity, purity, and prestige. But today,
two main categories coexist in the market: natural diamonds, formed deep within the Earth over billions of years, and synthetic diamonds, created in a laboratory using advanced technologies. How do you tell them apart? What are the differences? We have prepared a guide to help you understand their differences.

1. NATURAL DIAMOND

A natural diamond is a stone born billions of years ago, forged by the Earth
under extreme pressure and heat. Each stone is unique and is the result of a long and rare geological process. In the jewelry market, natural diamonds are particularly sought after and retain their value better over time. Wearing a natural diamond means having a true fragment of Earth's history on your finger.

2. SYNTHETIC DIAMOND

A synthetic diamond is produced in a laboratory using two main processes:

- HPHT (High Pressure High Temperature), which recreates natural conditions of
pressure and heat.
- CVD (Chemical Vapor Deposition), which allows the diamond to form layer
by layer from a carbon-rich gas.

The result is a diamond that is chemically, physically, and visually identical to a
natural diamond. Being less rare than its natural cousin, it is generally offered at a price 30 to 50% lower.

3. HOW TO DISTINGUISH THEM?

With the naked eye, it is impossible to tell the difference.

It is therefore necessary to consult a professional equipped with specialized tools (x10 loupe, microscopes, etc.) to highlight the differences, whether in terms of inclusions or the diamond's growth structure.
Indeed, natural diamonds often have small mineral inclusions, which formed over millions of years.

4. WHAT TO CHOOSE?

This choice is very personal and depends on what you are looking for when buying your diamond. Is it rarity or price?

- Natural diamonds appeal due to their rarity and historical value.
- Synthetic diamonds are attractive because of their more accessible price.

In both cases, you will be purchasing a very beautiful diamond. Everything therefore depends on your priorities: investing in a creation of nature, which is more traditional, or opting for a modern and economical alternative.

Ultimately, the main thing is that your diamond reflects your values and desires. At Fremont
